Skidmore’s Pre-College Program is intensive, rigorous and fast-paced, offering each student the opportunity to take ownership of their academic experience, learn to balance demanding coursework with free time, and take full advantage of all available campus resources. We provide a number of academic services to support students throughout the program.
Academic Orientation
To help students acclimate to the shift from high school to college academics, we offer a virtual orientation that students complete prior to the program, covering topics ranging from college-level study skills to time management to community-building.
Academic Advising
Program staff members are available for advising should students have any difficulties or concerns about their courses. Program Director Michelle Paquette-Deuel and the program's academic advisor are happy to meet with students to discuss courses as well as such matters as time management and study skills.
Your Academic Advisor this summer will be Alice Buesing. Alice is an Associate Director in the Office of Academic Advising with a focus on incoming students and students interested in the health professions. She can support you with academic issues like adjusting to college-level work or finding academic resources, and is available to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding your academics this summer.
Office Hours (Starbuck Center RM201 D)
Tuesday, and Wednesday 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm
All students will briefly meet with Alice during the first week of classes. After the first week, Alice will be available to meet with students Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12 pm-1:30 pm. Alice will also be available outside these designated times, as needed, to accommodate students’ needs and various schedules (to schedule an appointment outside the hours noted, please email abuesing@skidmore.edu).
Writing Center
The Writing Center is an ideal place to get help with your papers. The Tutor/Academic Mentor also offers mentoring sessions to Pre-College students, providing general academic support with study skills, time management, problem-solving, test preparation, assignment outlines, and overall adjustment to college-level academics. This service is free for all Pre-College students.

We strongly encourage students to take advantage of these academic support services. The skills taught will be helpful and applicable to not only our college-level summer courses, but also to high school courses when students return home.
