The medallion

Skidmore's medallion is a priceless and treasured item worn only by the president during formal College events. It was designed and fashioned by Earl Pardon, a world-renowned jeweler and 38-year faculty member of Skidmore. It was unveiled in honor of former President Joseph C. Palamountain Jr. in 1987. In describing the piece, Pardon said he aimed to create a work of 鈥渙pulence, color, and richness鈥 to complement Skidmore's vibrant community. Each of the 52 rectangles of the chain is individually designed using a variety of materials, including gold, silver, and semiprecious stones. Hanging from the chain is an abstract 鈥淪" for Skidmore.
