Annual Call for Alumni Board Nominees

The Alumni Board Nominating Committee is seeking your recommendations for candidates to fill open positions on the Alumni Board. We rely on your insights to identify individuals who would be valuable additions to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. 

As you think about potential candidates, please remember that Alumni Board members are expected to attend three board meetings each year on the Skidmore College campus: in October, February, and May. These meetings are held on Saturdays, and some positions may require attendance at additional meetings. Unless otherwise specified, all positions have a four-year term. 

Open positions on the Alumni Board include:

Alumni Trustee - The Alumni Trustees serves as a representative of the Alumni Association Board of Directors on the Board of Trustees of the College. The Board of Trustees of the College must also approve the Alumni Trustee.  All Association members whose class graduated at least ten (10) years prior to nomination are eligible for consideration as Alumni Trustee candidates.

Vice President for Strategic Communications - serves as the liaison between the Board and the College鈥檚 various constituencies, specifically those members of the alumni body who have not yet become actively involved as members of the Alumni Association. Facilitates connectivity and networking among fellow board members, staff, faculty and alumni to promote the goals of the College. Coordinates with staff to develop goal-directed initiatives that address areas of need and promote further engagement with fellow alumni. Provides direction to and supervision of the Awards Committee in conjunction with their respective chair, and acts as the liaison between the committee and the Executive Committee of the Alumni Board. The Vice President will chair the Strategic Communications Team and work to support and carryout the various initiatives assigned to the team. Previous Board or Committee experience is preferred, either on the Alumni Board or other organizational boards, including experience in marketing, development, organizational behavior and/or long-range planning. The Vice President must possess demonstrated leadership capabilities, including an ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, a demonstrated commitment to the College and the Alumni Association.

Chair of Career & Professional Development - act as liaison between the Career Development Center (CDC), Alumni Engagement, appropriate College departments (e.g. Business Dept, Opportunity Program) and the student body to identify opportunities to foster relationships that will lead to enhanced career advice, networking skills and job opportunities for students and alumni. Participate in CDC-sponsored career events such as Career Jam, Industry panels (e.g. Consulting 101, Wall Street 101) and mock interviews.  Team with the CDC to identify opportunities to strengthen alumni networking and recruiting via strategically-identified employers.  Work with regional groups/volunteers to develop career networking opportunities.

Chair of Class Volunteers - act as the liaison between various class officers and the Alumni Board; work with the Alumni Engagement staff to draft and review support materials for volunteers; participate in and help promote staff initiatives that strengthen class volunteer cohesion and enhance the outcome of their efforts. Correspond with class officers through electronic and written communications. The Chair must possess the motivation and the willingness to offer time to promote Skidmore, demonstrate leadership capabilities, including the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, and a demonstrated commitment to the College and the Alumni Association.

Chair of Young Alumni Giving - work with Young Alumni class volunteer leaders and staff to engage Young Alumni both to increase class participation and maximize dollars raised through the Young Alumni Presidents Society.  Work closely with the Skidmore Fund staff to develop and implement an annual solicitation plan.  Advise staff in identifying, recruiting, training, and soliciting class leaders in both non-reunion and reunion classes (President, Fund Chair, PS Chair, Class Agents).  Communicate with Young Alumni through appeals, e-mails, and other communication vehicles.  Build relationships with Young Alumni fundraising volunteers and serve in a 鈥渕entoring鈥 role.  Participate in volunteer training sessions for fundraising strategies and techniques.  Will be expected to sign email and print appeals written by the Skidmore Fund staff on a regular basis.

Chair of the Nominating Committee -  coordinate the annual process of selecting individuals for positions on the Alumni Board in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Engagement as well as the Nominating Committee. The Chair will work with the Office of Alumni Engagement to fill any open seats on the Nominating Committee.  Coordinate the 鈥淐all for Nominations鈥  and assist in preparations for the Nominating Committee Meeting.  Facilitate meetings of the Nominating Committee to develop a slate of candidates for each of the positions, present the slate to the Alumni Board of Directors, notify the approved slate and obtain the individuals commitment to serve, correspond with constituencies about the outcome of the process and select in conjunction with the Office of Alumni Engagement. The Chair must possess an understanding of the Nominating Committee process and the duties and responsibilities of positions to be filled, demonstrate leadership capabilities, including the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people, and demonstrate a commitment to the College and the Alumni Association.
