Excerpt from Deborah Zlotsky's juror's statement
Congratulations to every student for the perhaps astonishing desire to make art when
conventional wisdom seems to undermine the urgency and necessity of art-making in
our culture. The world needs art. It is not 'extra'- it is fundamental to the way
we are human, expressive, and full of anxiety and curiosity.
