Allan Crocker
Allan Crocker, who helped launch Skidmore’s first Parents Council and build its Parents Fund, died on Monday, December 16, 2019. He was 85.
Allan joined the College in 1972 and held several positions in the Office of Advancement. He was subsequently promoted to senior associate director of development and director of the Parents Fund. He retired in 1999.
“Many of the parent donor names on the Skidmore campus are a direct result of Allan’s efforts,” said Christine Hoek, former vice president for development and alumni relations. “He was a strong advocate for the College both locally and across the country.” Mary Lou Bates, Vice President and Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid added, “Allan had an amazing capacity for developing relationships with Skidmore community members, parents and alumni. He was a terrific colleague and a wonderful friend.”
Three of Allan’s children also attended Skidmore, and his efforts on behalf of the College earned him recognition as an honorary alumnus in 2006.
Born in Adams, Massachusetts, he graduated from Norwich University in 1956 and also served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors included his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; their children, Jessica ’79 (Paul Hayes), Christopher (Alison ’81), Francine ’86 and Allan ’88 (Juliette Nam); grandchildren Ryan, Michael, Christopher, Ani, Henry and Ted; and sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Don Sherman and their children.
He was buried with military honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
