Frederick Bolster
Frederick Bolster, who served for 40 years in Skidmore’s maintenance operations, died December 4, 2017, at Saratoga Hospital following a short illness. He was 72.
A Saratoga native, Fred was the son of George and Helen (Baker) Bolster. After graduating from St. Peters Academy, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving until 1966. The very next year he joined the staff at Skidmore, first as a grounds worker and then as a boiler operator and engineer. He retired in 2007.
Upon retirement Fred purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle and covered many miles, exploring the country with friends. A hunter and angler, he enjoyed feeding backyard birds and treating the dogs in his neighborhood. He became an avid fan of his grandchildren’s sporting matches, attending as many as he could; his family says he’ll be missed by “kids, parents and coaches alike.”
Fred was predeceased by his sister, Suzanne Bolster Toussaint. His survivors include his wife, Margaret Armstrong Bolster; their children, Carolyn Bolster Peck (Kevin) and John Bolster (Renee Galloway); grandchildren Matthew and Ryan Peck, Ty and Mia Bolster, and Gavin Galloway; brother-in-law Stephen Toussaint and sister-in-law Nancy Armstrong (Steven Finch); as well as extended family including Jean Peck, Dianne and Gary Zack, and Fred and Kathy Whittet.
