A Big Green Scream for Skidmore, Stewart’s ice cream
Around 1,200 members of the Skidmore community and fans of Division III men’s and women’s basketball packed Williamson Sports Center to capacity to cheer for Skidmore and to scream for Stewart’s new “Skid Mo’ Mint” ice cream flavor at the annual Big Green Scream.
Both Skidmore teams faced off against Clarkson University at the 12th annual Big Green Scream on Saturday, Feb. 15. In addition to enjoying in-game contests, musical performances and winter carnival activities, fans also voted by cheering on two Skidmore-inspired names for Stewart’s Shops popular Mint Chip ice cream flavor.
Skid Mo’ Mint received the loudest scream and will be available in 10 shops throughout Saratoga Springs and Ballston Spa as well as on campus at the Spa, Atrium Café and Murray-Aikins Dining Hall in March. Skid Mo’ Mint edged out another proposed name, Creative Mint Matters, a play on Skidmore’s slogan “Creative Thought Matters.” Both names were submitted by members of the Skidmore community.
Skidmore students enjoy Stewart's Mint Chip ice cream, which will be renamed Skid Mo' Mint Chip and sold on campus and at nearby Stewart's Shops.
“Stewart’s Shops and Skidmore make a great team and we hope this new ice cream will be a fan favorite campus-wide,” said Susan Dake, a 1971 Skidmore alumna and president of the Stewart’s Foundation.
Stewart’s approached Skidmore with the opportunity to name a flavor last year. In the fall, members of the Skidmore community participated in tasting sessions and selected Mint Chip as the community’s favorite flavor.
It’s also the favorite ice cream flavor of Skidmore’s next president, Marc C. Conner, who recently visited campus and will assume office this summer. Samples were available between the two games on Saturday.
The games also marked Senior Day for graduating student athletes. The women honored Jessica Centore and Lilly Berg, and the men celebrated Pat Gallagher and Jordan Cole. Centore and Berg made the best of their Senior Night, leading the women's team to a 66-40 win over Clarkson University. The men’s team rallied in the second half of their matchup, but the Clarkson Golden Knights held off the Thoroughbred comeback to secure a 74-63 win.
