As the graduates prepare for the next phase of their lives, faculty and staff are sharing what they’ll remember most about the Class of 2023 and well wishes for the future. 

Meet the Skidmore College Class of 2023

Members of the Class of 2023 have pursued an impressive range of passions even as they have overcome once unimaginable challenges. And they’ve done it all with incredible grace. Here’s a look at some of their achievements. 

Skidmore graduate wins inaugural Projects for Peace Alumni Award

Human rights and education activist Joseph Kaifala ’08, a Sierra Leonean who majored in French and international affairs at Skidmore College, is the inaugural recipient of the Projects for Peace Alumni Award.

Employee Retirement and Recognition Celebration  

The luncheon is scheduled to take place from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23, on Case Green. The rain location is Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. 

 

Volunteers needed  

Dining Services is looking for volunteers starting at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, to help with the Retirement and Recognition Celebration. .

Marketa Halova Wolfe, associate professor of economics, published a scholarly article in The Financial Review. Read more>>

Announcements

State-of-the-College Finances Presentation

From 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23, President Conner and College administrators will lead on College finances. Topics will include the budget, next year’s general salary adjustment (GSA), and other important information. All Skidmore employees are invited to attend. The presentation will also be recorded and available to view later.

 

Summer Bulletin publication schedule 

From May 31 through Aug. 23, the Bulletin will be published biweekly and distributed to faculty and staff only. It will also be posted online. Submissions to the Faculty-Staff Achievements section will not be accepted over the summer and will be accepted again in the fall. Biweekly issues of the Bulletin will be published May 31; June 14 and 28; July 12 and 26; and Aug. 9 and 23. SWB will resume weekly publication on Aug. 30. Submit by completing the online form. The deadline for all submissions is noon on Monday. Please email swb@skidmore.edu if you have questions.

 

Reunion student assistant positions  

The Office of Alumni Relations and College Events has for students (16 to 23 years old) for Alumni Reunion Weekend, June 1-4. Please apply online by May 19. Contact Janis Petroski for more information. 

 

Opportunity Program 50th Anniversary 

will take place throughout Reunion Weekend, June 2-4. Help welcome OP alumni back to Skidmore at a faculty and staff welcome reception at 4:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, at the Frederick Allen Lodge on Beekman Street. . For more information, contact Jennifer Hardy.

 

Reminder from the Skidmore Post Office   

Students should pick up any packages and clean out their mailbox before departing campus. Any packages and letters received over the summer will be returned to the sender. Students    

staying on campus or in the local area over the summer must complete to keep their mailbox during the summer. For more information, contact the Post Office. 

SEFCU summer hours

Effective May 22, the branch hours for SEFCU’s campus branch are 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. Normal hours will resume in August.

 

McCaffery-Wagman construction updates  

Drilling and blasting will be conducted beginning Monday, May 22, and continue intermittently throughout the summer for the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center. Due to construction, the main sidewalk to the Williamson Sports Center will be closed until mid-August. A temporary entrance is located on the west side of the building. For more information, contact Facilities Services. 

 

Fiscal Year-End Reminders from Financial Services 

Please review these detailed guidelines ahead of the close of the fiscal year on May 31. You are encouraged to submit expense reimbursements, invoices for payment, and related items in advance of the deadlines. As a reminder, all transactions are handled through Oracle Cloud.

 

Give+Go Move-Out Donation Collection 

U-Haul Box donation stations will be open through senior move-out day, Sunday, May 21. This initiative yields over 10 tons of gently used goods and food for nonprofit partners each year. Students can for donation details. Staff, faculty, and students are to sort donations on Sunday, May 21. For more information, contact Jen Natyzak.

 

Sports Center locker clear-out  

Please clear out all personal items left in the locker rooms of the Williamson Sports Center by Saturday, May 20, to allow for cleaning and construction. Any items not removed will be bagged and placed in the lost and found. 

 

Skidmore Shop to close for inventory 

The will be closed for inventory Monday, May 22, through Thursday, May 25. Should you need anything during this time, please place an online order for pickup on Friday, May 26.

The Liberty League that 87 Skidmore student-athletes received Liberty League All-Academic honors for the spring 2023 season.
