SPWG Update (08/19/24)

Dear Members of the Skidmore Community,

As co-chairs of the Space Planning Working Group (SPWG), we would like to provide some updates on space projects and highlight the role of the SPWG in campus space planning and allocation.

A Few Space Updates

  • BTCIS. As previously announced, the last stage of the Billie Tisch Center for Integrated Sciences was completed at the end of last semester. All 9 science departments and 1 interdisciplinary program have moved in, and Facilities has been working hard this summer to address requests that have emerged as people settle in the new spaces.
  • TLC Student Lounge. Tisch Learning Center (TLC) 100 has been temporarily habilitated as a student lounge scheduled to open in the middle of September. Student space was scarce in TLC, so this student lounge will help alleviate this need. Long-term plans for the vacated space in TLC are still being considered, which include the availability of any potential funding needed to support such plans.
  • Campus Safety. The Department of Campus Safety has moved from the basement of Jonsson Tower into the first floor of the Annex.
  • McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center. The construction of the McCaffery-Wagman Tennis and Wellness Center is in full swing and on target to be in use and occupied for the Spring semester.

½ûÂþÌìÌà the SPWG and Space Requests

The SPWG consists of students, staff, and faculty tasked with evaluating and making recommendations on space allocation and utilization, guided by our shared values and principles expressed in the Campus Master Plan and current Strategic Planning. The SPWG had an active year during 2023-2024, refining procedures, developing a standard space request form, reviewing space requests, and providing a forum for informed collective space-related decisions.

Information regarding space requests, including the process and the link to the space request form, can be found on the SPWG’s website:

We are committed to the SPWG’s role as a forum for better and more consultative space-related decisions, so please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Best regards,

Dan Rodecker, Assistant Vice President of Facilities and Planning (SPWG co-chair)
Oscar Pérez Hernández, Associate Dean of the Faculty (SPWG co-chair)
